Captain’s Log: Colleen’s AVM Adventures Day 13 Part 2

Do you know what’s awkward to read to your Mom when she’s unable to read for herself f and you’re trying to keep her mind engaged throughout the day and provide something to help her brain retrain its memory and heal?
Nora Roberts.
“She rose to her toes, pressed her lips to his. Then found herself caught against him, sinking again, heart quivering as he took her under…”
COME ON!! I MEAN: COME. THE F*** ON!!! REALLY?!?!? Hasn’t this whole THING been PAINFUL ENOUGH?!?!?
When I lifted this book from Mom’s bedside last week, I had NO IDEA what I was in for! I read history, economics… sci-fi for fun… Oh God… you continue to test my faith… WHAT! do I have to DO! to PROVE! my LOYALTY?!?!?! MY FAITH!?!?!? Dear sweet 6lb 8oz baby Jesus I need a BEER… … …what?!?! Beer is not allowed on the NSICU? Bummer. Major. Bummer.
I think the nurses are laughing at me in the hall. Because I can’t half-ass this… No way. This is my mother’s recovery we’re talking about here and if we follow instructions and work hard and give it our all there’s a rumor she’ll make a full recovery… you like how I write? You should hear me real aloud. I’ve got flow, ladies and gentlemen, I’ve got flow; I alter my pitch, timber, and tone for the speech of different characters, for different scenes… I could get PAID for this!
Okay… sorry…
You know what the best part is? Mom doesn’t remember… like… anything from the last 13 days. 13 days. Pretty much nothing. She’s got flashes of people, but nothing concrete. No conversations. No comments. Pretty much no continuation from day to day. Half the time, she doesn’t remember her grandchildren’s names. The other half of the time, she thinks it’s 1991. She’s had the same nurse for 12 hours a day for 5 days. But she can’t remember her name for one hour to the next let alone across the days. She’s NEVER been like that before.
But for some bizarre reason, the Nora Roberts is sticking with her. the characters, the story line. She’s laughing at the humor, commiserating with their pains, anticipating…
I was going to explain more about her schedule and the other progress she’s making but I think Nora Roberts sums it all up best for now.
This is the captain, passing out for now.
