I would post a picture of Mom, but she kind of looks like a crazy bird right now. (Appropriate, perhaps, as a chief of Bluebird Glass Studio?)
A wild bird on REALLY good drugs, ha!
Mom did great last night. I guess we forgot-to-ask/didn’t-think-about the fact that going in and mucking around in the brain, rerouting essentially all of your body’s blood flow in the area directly over your spinal column, might cause a wee headache. So, um, Mom had a literal killer headache last night. She’s on some sweet painkillers though, so she’s much better now.
Despite the massive cerebral pounding, her BP stayed low and even through the night, only slightly elevated above her new normal directly after the surgery, and looking completely normal this morning. She came out of the surgery and passed her cognition tests and speech therapy tests right away, so she’s already eating solids. She’s sitting up in a chair this morning chatting with me. (Bonnie found the amazing, $1/ea Starbucks coffee stand in the basement. Shocking, considering how bad I am at giving directions…)
Docs did rounds nice and early this morning, during which, Mom noticed that the buzzing in her left ear that she’s had for YEARS is just… gone! Her vision is good; she feels slightly dizzy when she rotates her head to the left, but she’s been struggling with that side and that will probably improve pretty quickly. I’m sure we’ll notice all sorts of little things like that throughout the coming days.
She still has lots of fun things to do today: PT & OT evaluations, another doctor’s visit, maybe another CT scan? Who knows. They might get her out of there tonight, or they might torture her with another night.
I gave the ladies directions to the Wendy’s and Enstein Bros also in the basement and wished them luck for the day.
Well done to my Mom, Ms. Colleen‘s tribe of prayer warriors and positive thinkers; there will never be scientific proof, I suppose — unless, of course, you count the fact that Ms. Smiley is doing fabulous. Another hurdle down, whatever is next, BRING IT ON!
