I designed this piece for my own home… and I’ve now built several of them… but somehow, they’ve never made it across the street and into my own windows! Instead, the first one sold before I’d finished cementing it and the next 2 sold pre-production!
It’s a simple but sort of technically challenging little window to build. The design is based on the Fibonacci and the Nautilus both of which have come up in my work before. In terms of cutting out the design, it requires a surprising amount of glass to complete because the pieces are so large and the direction of any movement in the glass is crucial to the design. (And the deeper curves can be a blast to cut! I added the extra challenge of not allowing myself to use the saw!) I decided early on in construction that I wanted a wider piece of lead to wrap the “Fibonacci curve” in its entirety and holding the piece together until that’s complete can be quite the juggling act. So it never stops being fun to build.
Thank Geese! Because I still want one! Ideally, TWO!
So now I’ve got 4 cut out at once, and I’m hoping that I can find some safety in numbers! With any luck, at least two of these beauties will end up in the matching octagon windows at either end of my loft apartment!
Cross your fingers and wish me luck!
