The efforts to fund the Ray of Light Project seem to be picking up steam! Enough so that the command to “Forward March!” to almost stinkin’ official!! Holy guacamole, Batman!
I’ve finished a small sample tile, working through my thoughts on completing the mosaic columns. I would really like there to be some even slight amount of dimension to the mosaic (even though that wasn’t really part of the initial game plan…)
Here’s the thing: this project is in my backyard, my neighborhood park, affects my community. I want this to blow minds, change attitudes. My community needs this project to defy expectations and show the rest of the city that we’re serious about this issue and we’re serious about cleaning up our neighborhood. We’re tired of being ignored and we’re really tired of the violence.
I know I’m in trouble because I know what’s coming: an inhuman push to build something completely amazing, even though the funding parameters of the project really don’t allow for that. I’m going to say “hell with it!” and build what I think my community deserves anyway.
I’m really excited about the potential I have both technically and artistically for this project. The staff at Buffalo Arts Studio is so incredibly supportive and they will do whatever they can to help. Watch out Buffalo… I don’t know exactly how this is going to end, but I can feel it in my bones…. this project is going to blow us away!!
