I arrived on site for the final day of installation… … and I mortared… … and I cleaned… … and then I packed my ladders back into truck… … and I almost forgot to take a picture before I left!
Ray of Light Update: Almost Time for Installation!
This will be the last update on construction from the studio. We’re working basically around the clock to finish on time and stopped only long enough to eat and get this baby posted, then we’re right back to it! We’ve tackled a lot of the prep work for installation: pre-fitting pieces over the seams and basically making giant packing tape band-aides to use on site. We tried to continue our previous videos and put in lots of fun facts… but… back to it! See you from Masten Park soon! And again, HUGE thank you to everyone who’s been supporting us… Read More »
Ray of Light Update: Glass Begins to Take Form
So we’re another 8 days along. We’ve spent a little over 90 hours just cutting down the 140 square feet of glass into approximately 22,000 pieces to build this mosaic… watch the magic happen in the time lapse below:
Ray of Light Update: Here We Go!
So the funding is in and things are moving FAST because we’ve got to get this thing finished and installed before the cold weather shuts us down! The clock is definitely ticking! So here’s the plan for these 4’W x 14’H mosaic columns: We have material support from Sunshine Glassworks in Cheektowaga, NY & Tiles International in Orchard Park, NY. If you’re interested in mosaic work, I… Read More »
Ray of Light Mural: Measurements and Go Time!?
Taking final measurements on site this morning… it’s hard to believe this is about to go… it’s going to be such an incredible transformation! (My chest is feeling a little tight though… is anyone feeling overwhelmed by the task ahead???)
Ray of Light Update: Almost Funded, Samples, Moving Forward…
The efforts to fund the Ray of Light Project seem to be picking up steam! Enough so that the command to “Forward March!” to almost stinkin’ official!! Holy guacamole, Batman! I’ve finished a small sample tile, working through my thoughts on completing the mosaic columns. I would really like there to be some even slight amount of dimension to the mosaic (even though that wasn’t really part of the initial game plan…) Here’s the thing: this project is in my backyard, my neighborhood park, affects my community. I want this to blow minds, change attitudes. My community needs this project… Read More »
Ray of Light: An Intense Public Art Project on the Horizon
Yesterday I had the honor of meeting the staff and artists from Buffalo Arts Studio that are making the Ray of Light Project possible. I’ve been brought on board to bring the proposed mosaic portion of the project into reality if that much funding can be secured. So… What is the Ray of Light Project? On October 1, 2014, the Goldsmith family of Buffalo lost a beloved family member, Jerald (Dee Dee) Goldsmith, to a violent crime that took her life at just 52 years old and left her seven children without a mother. Now, Dee Dee’s family is turning… Read More »
